Author Min Jee Lee’s New York Times best-selling novel has made its return to the small screen with the premiere of Pachinko season two on Apple TV+ on Aug. 23. The series continues to follow the journey of a Korean immigrant family over four generations, navigating through war, occupation, and colonialism. Set against the backdrop of World War II and Tokyo in 1989, the new season delves deeper into the family's experiences.
Pachinko, spanning from 1910 to 1989 across Korea, Japan, and the U.S., features a stellar cast led by Oscar-winning actress Yuh-Jung Youn as Sunja. The story follows Sunja's struggles growing up in poverty in a fishing village near Busan and her eventual move to Osaka after meeting a Japanese fish broker. Broadway actor Jin Ha portrays Sunja’s grandson Solomon, who embarks on a journey to Japan to negotiate a land deal, leading to reunions with his grandmother and father, played by Soji Arai.
