Pachinko Season 2 Trailer Reveals Multigenerational Korean Family Saga

Pachinko TV Series 2022

A Korean family's generational struggles with war, forbidden romance, and business survival are set to continue in the upcoming second season of Apple TV+'s Pachinko. The recently released trailer for the new season offers a glimpse into the complex narrative that spans multiple generations and cultural backgrounds.

The trailer showcases parallel storylines that unfold in different time periods and locations. It begins with Minha Kim's character in Osaka, Japan, in 1945, portraying the younger Sunja as she navigates perilous decisions to ensure her family's survival during wartime. Fast forward to 1989 in Tokyo, where Yuh-Jung Youn, an Oscar winner for Minari, portrays an aged Sunja, now a grandmother, alongside her Western-educated grandson Solomon Baek, played by Jin Ha.

The second season of Pachinko delves into Solomon's journey as a financial expert grappling with his family's legacy and the challenges of a significant business deal. The trailer hints at Solomon's internal conflict as he balances his Korean, Japanese, and American identities while pursuing success in the corporate world.

The narrative also revisits Sunja's past as a young adult, portrayed by Minha Kim, as she reunites with her former lover Koh Hansu, played by Lee Minho, in wartime Osaka after a long separation. Their emotional exchange underscores the enduring bond between the characters despite the passage of time.

Pachinko creator Soo Hugh has outlined a comprehensive storytelling plan for the series, spanning four seasons with eight episodes each. The adaptation of Min Jin Lee's acclaimed novel promises to offer a rich and multilayered exploration of family, heritage, and ambition across different eras and cultures.

Produced by Media Res, Pachinko is helmed by creator and writer Soo Hugh, who also serves as an executive producer. The series is further supported by executive producers Michael Ellenberg and Lindsey Springer from Media Res, along with Theresa Kang from Blue Marble Pictures.

The second season trailer features a new rendition of Coldplay's hit song 'Viva La Vida' performed by Rosé of the popular K-pop group Blackpink. Apple TV+ is set to premiere the second season of Pachinko globally on August 23, with the first episode launching followed by weekly releases every Friday until October 11.
