Ozzy Osborne jokes the ‘devil’ kept him safe from Covid

Ozzy Osbourne has managed to avoid catching coronavirus throughout the pandemic – and apparently, he has the devil to thank for this.

The Black Sabbath frontman did not disclose whether he had been following government guidelines such as social distancing or wearing a mask but instead jested that his avoidance of the deadly virus had something to do with the watchful Lucifer himself.

Osbourne’s family, on the other hand, haven’t been so lucky. His wife Sharon Osbourne was hospitalised with Covid in December last year, and one of his daughters also contracted the virus.

In an interview with Metal Hammer, Osbourne said: “My wife had the virus; my daughter had the virus and I never got it. Being a devil worshipper does have its good points!”

Despite all this devil-worshipping talk, the rocker has previously stated he’s not really a Satanist and is actually a Christian.

Speaking to Spin back in 1986 (and republished byThe Guardian in 2014), Osbourne said: “I’m a Christian. I was christened as a Christian. I used to go to Sunday school. I never took much interest in it because … I didn’t. My idea of heaven is feeling good. A place where people are alright to each other.”

Although the Prince of Darkness has the devil protecting him from Covid, in recent years, the 72-year-old has been combating a series of health issues.

Back in January last year, Osbourne revealed he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease.

Before this diagnosis, the singer also had to undergo surgery after a nasty fall and, on top of this, he contracted potentially life-threatening staph infection.

Osbourne also shared last November that his lung condition also makes him more susceptible to the virus.

He told GQ: “I’ve got emphysema, so if I get this virus, I’m f***ed.”

Last year, at the start of the pandemic, Osbourne’s daughter Kelly encouraged people to stay at home in order to keep high-risk people like her father safe, using the hashtag #StayHomeforOzzy.

It remains unclear whether or not Kelly herself contracted the virus.

At the moment, Osbourne is working on a new studio album which is set to feature members of Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Metallica, according to NME.
