Owners of The Watering Can launch new venue The Wheelbarrow near Sefton Park

The owners of The Watering Can in Greenbank Park have opened a new sister venue, The Wheelbarrow.

The team has transformed a former college canteen, spending £100,000 to turn it into a lush, inviting space, with an outside terrace, just a stone’s throw from Sefton Park. Owners Keith Perryman and Philip Starling are working in partnership with Greenbank Sports Academy to operate its food and drinks outlet. The pair opened the award-winning The Watering Can in April 2019 and managed to keep it going through the struggles of the pandemic.

The Wheelbarrow has been lovingly renovated to give it a warm and inviting feel with the outside south facing terrace area suitable for alfresco dining. Guests will be able to enjoy a full breakfast menu from 9am, along with lighter breakfasts including Huevos Rancheros, Croque Madame Croissant and bacon or sausage barms.

A lunchtime menu will initially be available from 1pm and will include a selection of sandwiches, bigger plates and sides, such as The Wheelbarrow Posh Fish Sandwich, fried chicken sandwich, and fish and chips. The venue is fully accessible, dog friendly, and will be serving take away options alongside its dine in menus.

Owner Keith Perryman said: "As someone who was raised in the area, I am delighted that as a business we are able to invest in and support our local community. My partner Phil and I are incredibly proud of the venues we have created and the attention to detail we have lovingly injected into both café bistros and we are also proud of the teams we employ and the many customers who support us. We look forward to welcoming our guests to The Wheelbarrow and showcasing a venue we have transformed into a hidden gem which will be well worth a visit."

The Wheelbarrow is open now for hot drinks, snacks and takeaways, and opens with its full menu from tomorrow. Opening hours are 9am to 10pm Monday to Friday and from 9am to 6pm Saturday and Sunday. The venue is also available for private hire. The Wheelbarrow is at Greenbank Sports Academy, Greenbank Lane, Liverpool, L17 1AG.
