Owners of popular Glasgow coffee shop announce they're moving on from Dennistoun

Coffee fans in Glasgow's east end have been devastated after owners of a hugely popular cafe announced they are moving on.

East has become a household name in Dennistoun since opening in the area four and a half years ago.

After building up a loyal following thanks to their beautiful coffees, cakes and bagels being served up on Duke Street, they then took up residence at Hillfoot Street, where they continue to operate today.

However, taking to social media over the weekend, the East team say they've 'decided to call it a day.'

The shock announcement reads: "It’s been an honour serving every one of you and making great and lasting friendships along the way. The last few years (excluding the madness of the pandemic) have been the best and most fulfilling I’ve had and I’m so thankful for all of your support during good and bad times."

But, it is hoped East can continue serving the people of Dennistoun in some form.

The Instagram post continued: "Don’t worry, you’ve not missed your chance to have a last bagel or coffee though! We’ll be here and serving for as long as it takes to organise ourselves and potentially pass the mantle on to somebody else.

"I’d love to see East continue in some capacity so if you or someone you know would like to discuss the opportunity of taking over at 30 Hillfoot St please feel free to get in touch and discuss at eastcoffeecompany@gmail.com."

Dozens of gutted Glaswegians have responded to the announcement sharing their sadness at the news, with one local summing up the thoughts of many by commenting: "Some shift, well done. Hub of the community, will be missed. The troops demand a closing party."
