Owners of Glasgow street food vendor dealt 'massive blow' after trailer stolen

A Glasgow food vendor has been dealt a massive blow after their trailer was stolen from its prime Clydeside location.

Owners of FETA Street Food, Calvin Crichton and Chris Symonds, were left devastated after they realised their popular outlet in Broomielaw was snatched on April 20.

The trailer was a hit with many and was the business's pride and joy.

Calvin told Glasgow Live: "I was very confused.

"We had left it to hibernate over winter whilst we did a pop-up at Nice n Sleazy, then to find out it was gone caused so much stress.

"It has knocked us for six. We had a lot of plans for the business that we have now cancelled.

"This is our second year trading so it is a massive blow to not have it available.

"Sadly we had to let down a few people who booked us which has also made it financially very difficult for us.

"That is our main source of income. We do events, weddings and festivals but the trailer was how we started the business, that was our bread and butter.

"We have turned down so many jobs because we can't do them without the trailer."

The pair are still trying to come to terms with their huge loss and our now trying to raise funds to purchase a new outlet.

The trailer was loved by many (supplied)

So far £2,335 has been donated to the business, with FETA Street Food offering a variety of rewards, including free food for life, to those who offer a helping hand.

Calvin has been blown away by the support shown by the public already.

He said: "We wanted to try spin something positive out of this nightmare, so we set up the crowdfunder.

"We didn't to ask people hat in hand for money with no benefit for themselves. Anyone who wants to help us along, we want to reward them if our goal is achieved.

"Those who donate £10 will have their name on the new trailer because we want to immortalise anyone who put their hand in their pocket.

"It's the worst possible time to ask so we want to stress that we want to give something back to the community.

"It's an all or nothing campaign so if we don't meet the target everyone will be refunded. If we hit £6,000 it will go to a second target of £12,000, which gives us pretty much the exact same trailer as what we had.

"The overwhelming support from customers and strangers has kind of taken the sting off of the whole situation."

The theft has been reported to Police Scotland.
