The owners of a Canal Street restaurant and a pub in Sale have announced both venues have closed with immediate effect.
Couple Lisa Kettle and Danielle Condron have run The Bridge Pub and Dining in Sale since 2016 with a second restaurant venture, No 1 Canal Street, opening in 2017. The Gay Village venue was named the best restaurant in Manchester at 2019’s British Restaurant Awards.
Lisa and Danielle have now said that they have had to make the ‘very hard decision during these difficult times’ to close both venues.

“This has been a very hard decision during these difficult times. We’d like to express our heartfelt thanks to our amazing customers, and the team that has made everything possible.”
A similar statement was also posted on the No 1 Canal Street Facebook page, with customers sharing their upset and surprise at the news.

Garry Thomas-Lowde said: “Oh what sad news. The best venue on the street with the best food and service. Recently discovered the Bridge and equally impressed. You will be greatly missed.”
Richard Render added: “Oh my god I’m so sad. You created the best restaurant Canal Street has ever had, with fantastic service and amazing food. The cost of living crisis is killing lots of businesses but I know you’ll be back.”
Those sad at the loss of The Bridge pub also shared their sentiments. Off The Hook Fish and Chips wrote: “We are gutted to hear this, the transformation from grotty run down pub to the nicest pub in Sale was amazing. Good luck for the future to all of the team.”
Joanne Wood posted: “You were the very fabric of Sale for us and it won’t be the same at all without you. It must have been the toughest decision ever and we know you won’t have made it lightly. We wish you the very best of luck for the future and hopefully another successful venture in easier times.”
Bec Rotchell added: “I am absolutely gutted for you all and I hope that you are all ok. You did wonders with the Bridge and you should be so proud of what you achieved. Good luck to you both for the future.”
