Store owner's moving message to community after Centra shop goes up in flames

The owner of an iconic Co Meath store wants the money raised for rebuilding his store to be donated to Darkness Into Light.

A fire that started on Sunday night around 10.20pm ripped through the Centra in the square in Bettystown.

The blaze burned overnight resulting in significant damage to the neighbouring Macari's takeaway as well.

A fundraiser was launched to help Patrick Boshell, the owner of Pat's Centra, to rebuild his business.

But the kind-hearted Meath man has asked for the money to be donated to a good cause.

In a message to the community on the fundraiser page, he said: "We want to thank you all for your kind messages and continued support as always, it never goes unnoticed.

"We are thankful to the emergency services who worked tirelessly throughout the night to help tackle the flames.

"We were made aware of fundraisers happening in our name and as much as we do appreciate it, we kindly ask that the money raised will go towards Darkness Into Light on May 7."

The message continued: "And a note to our staff, there are no words to describe how we are all feeling but we are all feeling it together.

"Like the whole community, Patrick is eager to get the ball rolling to rebuild his store and continue doing what he does best. Thanks again for your continued support at this difficult time."

A garda spokeswoman said the fire has been extinguished although the building still remains unsafe at this time.
