Owner laughs as dog scared of everything struggles to eat bean because of crunch

A timid greyhound's fruitless attempts to chomp down on a green bean was caught on camera by his hysterical owners - after they discovered the hapless pooch is 'scared' of the crunchy veg. Elise Jones filmed the hilarious footage after her dog Monty used his 'puppy dog eyes' to secure some scraps from Sunday dinner.

After giving him a green bean, the 23-year-old property administrator was left howling with laughter at watching Monty struggle to gobble down the bean, resorting to 'gently nibbling' away at it on the floor. Monty's struggle lasted for more than five minutes, during which he was given a second helping to tackle - that resulted in him coughing it back up.

Elise believes the failed race hound, who is also wary of broccoli, is likely scared of the crunchy vegetable due to its texture and is yet to get his head, or mouth, round them. Elise, from Ipswich, Suffolk, said: "He's mastered begging for food. He'll sit beside you while you're having dinner - he's got the puppy dog eyes down for sure.

"We gave him the green bean after Sunday dinner. He'd been doing the puppy dog eyes so we wanted to give him something, but not something too unhealthy. He spent about five minutes trying to get that bean up off the floor before we even started filming, that's why we were laughing so much.

"It just left us wheezing because of the way he was gently nibbling at it. You never usually see a dog do that. Dogs are usually like hoovers and inhale food, but Monty's so gentle. You can tell his brain is trying to work out what he's actually got.

"Green beans have been a problem for him though. I think it's a green vegetable thing, as he's the same with broccoli or anything vegetables that are crunchy.

"I don't think he can get his head round them because of their texture. When he comes across green beans, I think he's not sure if he should be crunching on them or not.

"He's a little bit scared of the green beans, he's very frightened of things. He's coming out of his shell bit by bit though."

Monty's timid nature is nothing new to Elise, who claims her pooch is an anxious creature. Elise said: "He's a rescue. He was meant to be a racing dog in Ireland but he refused to chase the little hares they send around the track so they gave him up.

"We got him in February. He's been really unsure about everything - stairs, vegetables, everything.

"He's so gentle, even when he licks you he's just sort of resting his tongue on you.

"He's just so nervous about everything, he's a soft-hearted gentle dog."
