Owain Wyn Evans makes Wales' Home of the Year announcement

Owain Wyn Evans has announced a start date for the brand new BBC Cymru Wales series, Wales' Home of the Year. The weatherman will host the property programme alongside judges Glen Thomas and Mandy Watkins.

It comes after the BBC announced earlier this year it was looking for homes of all types from all over Wales to apply to take part in the new six-part series. The show will offer viewers the chance to take a look around some of the best homes in Wales.

At the time of the search, which took place in March, the BBC said filmmakers were looking for homes that embody design, style, or amazing architecture, whether that be a terraced house, bungalow, castle, a country cottage, or contemporary flat.

Head of Commissioning for BBC Wales, Nick Andrews, said: "This will be a terrific series. If, like me, you've always wanted to snoop around some of the best homes in Wales the wait is over. And we won't be alone either - Owain, Mandy and Glen will be right there with us offering insight, expertise and gut reaction. I can't wait."

And now Owain has revealed the series is almost here after filming took place in April. The 38-year-old confirmed Wales' Home of the Year would air on Friday, August 12 at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Sharing the news on Instagram, Owain wrote: "Here we go! Thrilled to be hosting Wales’ Home of the Year alongside my uber fab co-judges @spacelikethis and @glenthomasarchitecture.

"I’ve renovated a few homes and love finding that thing that makes a house a home. Join interior designer Mandy and architect Glen and I as we peruse many GORGEOUS homes across Wales. Friday 12 Aug, 7pm BBC One Wales and @bbciplayer across the UK."

Owain will be joined by experienced interior designer, business owner and presenter from Anglesey, Mandy Watkins, and director of multi award-winning architectural design practice from Cardiff, Glen Thomas.

Mandy said: "I'm so excited to be a judge on Wales' Home Of The Year. I love looking around other people's houses! As a designer I look for personality in a home, it's such an important part of my work, ensuring that the home reflects the owner. So in this series I want to walk in and immediately get a sense of who lives there."

Glen added: "In Wales, we have such an abundant variety of wonderful architecture, from lofty warehouse apartments in the bay, to elegant Victorian terraces in the capital and striking contemporary eco-dwellings in the countryside. As a judge on this new Welsh series I'm hoping that when I walk through those doors I will be greeted by a diverse array of innovative designs, unique styles, and overall a sense of drama!"
