'Overwatch' Mobile Game Rumors Spread, Could Rival 'Call of Duty: Mobile'

A mobile game version of Overwatch is rumored to be being developed by Blizzard. It is supposedly planed to rival Call of Duty: Mobile.

The fact that there is no Overwatch mobile game is already surprising enough given the popularity of the hero shooter since it was released. Other titles already have their own mobile version, including Apex Legends and Fortnite.

Overwatch Mobile

But in Bloomberg reported Jason Schreier's Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, and Future of Blizzard Entertainment book, he delves into what the studio has in store. He claims that a mobile version of Overwatch could already be in the works at Blizzard.

The new book details the entirety of the video game studio's history. This includes its famed World of Warcraft and Diablo franchises.

Play Nice also talked about the development of first-person shooters such as Overwatch and its successor, Overwatch 2, according to Pocket Tactics.

Schreier said in his book that Overwatch was led by Walter Kong. The latter was also the one who oversaw the release of regular heroes and content for Overwatch 2. The reporter noted that Kong also observed work on new projects such as a mobile version of the series.

However, it remains unclear whether or not the mobile project is actually still in development right now. The Play Nice book is not the first time a mobile version of Overwatch was rumored to be in development.

The Bloomberg reporter's new book included content Schreier acquired from more than 300 interviews.

These were made with different Blizzard personnel, both former and current. It also revealed that the studio scrapped some Overwatch projects. These include a Netflix series, Esports said.

Jason Schreier's New Book

The possibility of Overwatch Mobile comes as there have been keeps and bounds in smartphone technology in recent years. These have allowed more powerful titles to be played with high-fidelity displays.

Many titles have already found success with their mobile versions, such as Pokemon and Star Wars.

A lot of these games are free-to-play but have various microtransactions to profit from. The latter also ensures that developers will consistently put out new content for their games.

Despite information from Schreier's book on the mobile version of Overwatch, it is unclear whether it will be a port or a sequel, or something else entirely.

As the rumors are that the mobile game is still in development, it could take quite a while before official information is shared, according to Game Rant.
