It’s Overwatch Lunar New Year 2022 time. While some players may be content with happy to dive back into variants of Capture the Flag and set of fireworks on a re-dressed Lijang Tower, for others, events are all about new skins.
There are five new skins for this event rather than the usual eight (find out why that’s the case here). Team 4 has already revealed a few of them ahead of the event going live, so let’s not waste any time.
Legendary Skins
There are only two new skins for this event rather than the usual five. You’ll be able to buy these from the Hero Gallery for 3,000 credits if you aren’t fortunate enough to score them through a Lunar New Year box.
Seolbim Mercy
This is just a lovely look for Mercy. She’s wearing a hanbok, traditional Korean clothing for important events, including New Year celebrations. The color scheme looks great, and this is a fantastic addition to Mercy’s lineup of skins.
Nezha Tracer
I’m not sure Tracer, of all characters, needed another legendary event skin, but this one’s a doozy. In a short video Blizzard shared of the skin, you can see her feet are on fire, which is a great touch.
Cosmetics from previous editions of Lunar New Year are available in the Hero Gallery for the next few weeks too. Older Legendary skins will cost 1,000 credits each.
Epic Skins
Three other skins are available for those who complete weekly challenges. Long-time Overwatch players will know the drill. Play at least nine games per week to earn rewards like sprays and player icons. You’ll need to play 27 to unlock that week’s skin, but victories count for double.
Week 1 (January 25 - February 1): Prosperity Ashe
Ashe and BOB are getting another Lunar New Year skin this year. While not quite as memorable as BOB getting a tiger look in last year’s event, I love the color scheme. It should look especially good for those who have unlocked Ashe’s golden gun.
Week 2 (February 1 - 8): Auspicious Soldier: 76
Blizzard didn’t provide a front view of the new Soldier: 76 skin in advance, but from the rear, at least, it looks pretty good. The color scheme is on point, and, for some reason, I’m always a fan of skins that give the DPS hero white hair.
Week 3 (February 8-15): Porcelain Wrecking Ball
Love this for Hammond. The staging of the shot is great too, with the delicate look of the porcelain next to a pile of fireworks. Great stuff.
Overwatch Lunar New Year 2022 runs until February 15
