Overnight lane closures are set to hit a major Ayrshire road next week as part of active travel improvements.
Work on the A77 between Bogend Toll and Symington junctions is set to give a boost to cyclists and pedestrians.
The works will start on Monday and will run every night between 8pm and 6am. It is expected the works will last 15 weeks.
The project will see a widening of the existing shared foot way and cycle route.
Motorists have been told to expect closures on the nearside lane on the northbound carriageway throughout the works.
Construction is set to be halted for two weeks over the festive period.
The work is being carried out by Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland as part of the Network Management Contract for the South-West Trunk Road Unit.
The improved active travel routes are part of the Scottish Government’s and Transport Scotland’s mission to cut carbon emissions by providing higher quality active travel infrastructure.
Pedestrians and cyclists will still be able to access the shared footway.
Access for emergency service vehicles will also be maintained throughout these works.
A spokesperson for Amey said: “This scheme will benefit existing pedestrians and cyclists who currently use this section of the local cycle network each day by widening the existing shared footway to better align with Transport Scotland’s Cycling by Design guidance.
“The scheme will also encourage more users to walk, cycle and wheel for health, leisure and commuting purposes which aligns with the Scottish Government’s and Transport Scotland’s objectives to cut carbon emissions by providing higher quality active travel infrastructure.”
