Over half a million euro in clamping fines collected in just two months

Over half a million euro was collected by Dublin City Council in clamping fines in first two months of this year, Dublin Live can reveal.

There was also €4.1 million collected by the local authority through parking meters, parking tags and the UTS Credit Card Meter over the same time period.

The company that operates the Dublin Street Parking Services was paid €1.1 million by the Council over the same two months.

The payment to DSPS included the new monthly fine Pilot work, of which there are 3,485.

It comes as the fee associated with getting a clamp removed increased from €80 to €125 in the last week of February.

There were reports of clamps being removed by power tools around the same time.

The cost of parking in Dublin city centre also increased in February.

From February 1, parking in the city centre's "yellow zone” increased from €3.20 to €3.50 an hour.

Just outside this area the “red zone” charge went from €2.70 to €3.

The “green zone”, which is further outside from the centre, increased from €1.60 to €1.80, while the low demand “orange zone” will go from €1 to €1.10.

The “blue zone” rate which applies to some suburban villages will rise from 60 cent to 80 cent, while the special city centre Sunday parking charge from 2pm-6pm increased from €1.40 to €1.60.

Lower rates apply for those using parking tags instead of cash.
