More than 900 vehicles were abandoned in Glasgow over the course of 2022, figures have revealed.
The statistics, recently published following a Freedom of Information (FOI) request to Glasgow City Council, confirmed that in 2022, 923 abandoned vehicles were reported within the city.
There was an increase of 114 abandoned cars in a five year period reported, with 809 reported in 2018.

However, the number of cars reported abandoned plummeted in 2020 during the height of the pandemic, with only 582 reported over the year. No vehicles were reported between April and July of that year during the first lockdown.
The figure then rose to a five-year high in 2021 of 957 in 2021.
A spokesman for the council said: “Abandoned vehicles are blight on communities and often attract anti-social behaviour.
“We respond to regular reports of abandoned vehicles in the city, but a vehicle must meet certain criteria before we will have it removed.
“To be considered abandoned a vehicle must have vandalised, left unopen and partially or fully burnt out.
“Untaxed vehicles are a matter for the DVLA.
“The abandoned vehicles we remove will ultimately be taken to be scrapped.”
