Over 80 new Lanarkshire homes created as part of regeneration project

CCG Homes have created 81 new houses for people in Cambuslang as part of the Whitlawburn Regeneration project.

The £50m project has been led by CCG on behalf of South Lanarkshire Council (SLC) and South West Scotland hub.

Building for the new houses began in March 2020 when several 1970s housing blocks were demolished to be replaced with new modern energy-efficient homes.

The new homes are part of a wider vision for the area and SLC's desire to see more private housing in Whitlawburn.

A spokeswoman for CCG Homes told Lanarkshire Live : “The council is to be commended for taking forward the Whitlawburn Regeneration as the development will certainly contribute to the regeneration of Whitlawburn itself whilst also supporting the local economy of Cambuslang.

“The masterplan has been designed as ‘tenure blind’ which means that all of the homes are designed to look the same regardless of being private or social – this helps support community integration – and for homeowners when they come to see the show home, inside and out, they will be presented with a really contemporary look and feel.

“This in itself, as well as our price point (from £176,000) and the level of specification we provide as standard will encourage people to come to the area and hopefully purchase their first or forever home with CCG Homes.”

The development is expected to be fully completed in the spring of 2023.

Rutherglen MSP, Clare Haughey has been a fan of the regeneration project.

She commented: “The multi-million-pound regeneration of Whitlawburn over the past few years has been incredible. South Lanarkshire Council, West Whitlawburn Housing Co-operative, the housing developers, and their other partners deserve a lot of praise for their work.

“The construction of high-quality, energy-efficient socially rented homes not only helps the local community through better housing but boosts the local economy and creates jobs.”

Since construction began over 1000 people have registered their interest, and currently 25 per cent of the development has been sold, many of whom are first-time buyers.

There is a range of different properties available, from 2 to 3 bedrooms across a range of house types, with some having en suites and others with open plan ground-floor living space.

All of the new homes are energy efficient and are airtight, reducing heat loss and solar panels are installed on the roofs of the houses.

The area was recently visited by Fionna Kell, director of policy for Homes for Scotland.

She told us : “It was great to see the first of the new homes for sale ready to launch at Western Terrace as the latest phase of the larger mixed tenure development.

“It’s very welcome that a locally based company like CCG is providing much-needed high-quality new homes, supporting local jobs and regenerating local communities”.

For those interested in the new houses, they can go to the website to book for CCG's open day this weekend to view them.
