Over 40,000 Michigan customers are currently without power as a result of strong storms that swept through the state on Wednesday night. The outages have left many residents under heat advisories, adding to the challenges faced by those affected.
According to PowerOutage.us, at least 41,733 Michiganders are experiencing power outages as of 11 a.m. ET. DTE Energy, a major power company in Michigan, acknowledged the impact of the storms on their customers, stating on their website that they are working diligently to restore power.
DTE Energy has provided an estimate that 75% of affected customers will have their power restored by the end of the day. However, the situation remains critical as southern Michigan continues to experience heat advisories issued by the National Weather Service.
The National Weather Service has also warned of the possibility of more showers and storms, which could bring torrential downpours and gusty winds later in the day. Temperatures in the affected areas are expected to be up to 10 degrees above average on Thursday and Friday.
In addition to power outages and heat advisories, some parts of Michigan, including Ann Arbor and Detroit, are forecasted to have unhealthy air quality for sensitive groups on Thursday. This combination of challenges underscores the importance of staying informed and taking necessary precautions during severe weather events.
