More than 170 individuals were successfully rescued from dangling gondolas at Winter Park Resort in Colorado after a mechanical malfunction caused them to be trapped for several hours. The incident occurred when a crack was detected in a metal support structure, prompting one of the ski lifts to automatically shut down for safety reasons.

According to reports, it took rescuers a total of five hours to safely lower all 174 people to the ground. Skiers who were stranded on the lift described the experience as unusual but remained calm throughout the ordeal. Ski patrol members were praised for their professionalism and reassurance during the rescue operation.

One of the skiers, Aleksey Dmitriyev, shared his account of the incident, mentioning that despite the unexpected delay, everyone remained composed. Dmitriyev captured video footage of a rescuer descending into the gondola cabin to assist in the evacuation process.

Winter Park Resort confirmed that the lift would remain closed for repairs and inspections following the incident. The gondola manufacturer was on-site to assess the situation and install necessary replacement parts. As of late Sunday, testing was underway to ensure the lift's safe operation before reopening to the public.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safety protocols and preparedness in the event of mechanical failures at ski resorts. Despite the challenging circumstances, the successful rescue operation highlighted the coordinated efforts of rescue teams and ski resort staff in ensuring the well-being of all individuals involved.
