Recent Israeli attacks in Lebanon have led to the displacement of approximately 1 million people since Monday, as reported by the minister overseeing the country's crisis management center. While official figures indicate that over 100,000 individuals have been registered as displaced, it is estimated that up to 250,000 people are currently residing in both formal and informal collective shelters.
Nasser Yassin, the head of the Lebanon Crisis Observatory, highlighted that the actual number of affected individuals could be significantly higher, with up to four times as many people being directly impacted or displaced outside of the designated shelters.
The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has been affecting residents on both sides of the Lebanon-Israel border for several months. However, Lebanese authorities have observed a sharp increase in the number of civilians being displaced during the current period of escalated Israeli bombardment.
One of Israel's objectives in the conflict is to facilitate the return of tens of thousands of its own displaced citizens to northern Israel, further complicating the humanitarian situation in the region.
