Recent reports from the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) have revealed a staggering number of displacements in Gaza. It is estimated that more than 1.3 million individuals have been forced to leave Rafah for other parts of Gaza in just six weeks.
According to UNRWA, approximately 65,000 people are currently seeking shelter in Rafah, a significant decrease from the 1.4 million residents present in the area six weeks ago. The agency did not specify the exact locations within Gaza where the displaced individuals have sought refuge.
The ongoing conflict in Gaza has resulted in families being repeatedly uprooted from their homes in search of safety. The situation has become increasingly dire, with many facing challenges in finding suitable relocation options due to issues such as congested streets, overcrowding, fuel shortages, and a significant increase in transportation costs.
A recent report by the Norwegian Refugee Council highlighted that nearly one million people, accounting for half of Gaza's population, have been displaced in the past month alone due to Israel's intensified military operations in Rafah. The report also raised concerns about the growing health risks faced by displaced individuals, including a rise in Hepatitis A cases and the accumulation of solid waste posing a critical problem.
The plight of displaced Gazans continues to worsen as they navigate the harsh realities of conflict and displacement, with limited access to essential resources and increasing health hazards. The international community remains urged to provide support and assistance to alleviate the suffering of those affected by the ongoing crisis in Gaza.
