'Outstanding' school receives heavy praise for continued excellence

A primary school has been lauded with praise for their ‘nurturing and caring environment’ as inspectors deemed them ‘outstanding’.

Ofsted paid Our Lady's RC Primary School in Wigan a visit at the end of March where they had maintained their ‘outstanding’ score from their last inspection back in 2017. Staff and management at the Holly Road site in Aspull were left blushing by the compliments inspectors made.

“This ‘outstanding’ Ofsted judgement is testament to the dedication, hard work and team spirit of pupils, staff, governors and effective partnerships with our parents and carers in ‘the family’ that is Our Lady’s R.C. Primary School,” headteacher Chris Horridge told the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

“The Ofsted inspector was amazed at our children’s attitudes to learning and knowledge and ratified what we already know - that Our Lady’s is an amazing place. We are proud that our unrelenting focus upon achieving the highest educational outcomes – and thereby increasing life chances – for all the young people we teach and nurture has been so clearly recognised.”

The report, published on May 25, discussed the school’s ambitious curriculum, ‘which expands pupils’ minds and horizons’ and the ‘excellent subject knowledge’ of teachers. Louise McArdle, who carried out the Ofsted visit, explained that the classrooms were a ‘hive of activity’ and how pupils enjoy an ‘exceptionally wide range of sporting, musical and artistic activities’.

“Pupils positively flourish in this nurturing and caring environment,” the Ofsted report said. “They enjoy a vast array of exciting and stimulating activities in the school.

“Children in the early years blossom. They quickly become confident and resilient learners.

“Leaders have the very highest aspirations for pupils, both in their academic achievement and their behaviour. Pupils are passionate about learning and relish every opportunity that staff provide.

“Their conduct and attitudes embody the school’s mission statement: ‘Learning and loving together, we grow with Jesus’.”
