'Outstanding' Man City star named in Premier League team of the week

Erling Haaland and Bernardo Silva have been included in Garth Crooks' team of the week after the pair played instrumental roles in Manchester City's dramatic comeback win.

City found themselves 2-0 down to Crystal Palace on Saturday after a frustrating first half at the Etihad Stadium, but exceptional performances from the City duo after half-time inspired Pep Guardiola's side to a 4-2 win. Bernardo pulled one back for City when he cut inside from the right flank and arrowed a shot - via a deflection - in to the bottom corner.

Haaland then put his stamp on the match, scoring a 19-minute hat-trick to turn the game on its head and take his tally for the season to six goals in four outings.

The efforts of both were enough to earn them spots in BBC Sport pundit Crooks' team of the week, such was the way both stepped up to the plate and inspired City's comeback.

"It might have been Haaland's first hat-trick for City but, as sure as night follows day, it will not be his last," Crooks said.

"Anyone who can finish like that, barring injury, is in for a hatful of goals. It's most revealing when fans of other teams start telling you how good they think a player is."

Haaland aside, Crooks outlined the importance of Bernardo and how key it is that City keep hold of him this summer.

"Another player who is in great form again," Crooks said of the Portuguese midfielder. "Silva was outstanding against Newcastle last week and at the heart of a brilliant comeback against Crystal Palace.

"The Portugal international is running things at the moment. Should anything happen to Kevin de Bruyne or Ilkay Gundogan, then Silva is the only one capable of holding the fort in their absence."
