Not many Premier League followers would have predicted Arsenal to be 11 points ahead of Liverpool after just eight games of the 2022/23 season. The Gunners have started the campaign in sensational form with seven wins and just one defeat, while Liverpool have won just two of their games - although they have played one less than Arsenal.
The two teams meet at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, October 9, and while the bookmakers are struggling to split the two teams, Arsenal will surely be considered as likely winners given the stark contrast in form between the sides. It's a strange position for Arsenal to be in, as they have an abysmal recent record against the Reds.
The Gunners have won just one of their last 14 Premier League meetings against Liverpool - with the last four clashes ending in defeat for Arsenal. However, Sunday represents an ideal opportunity for Mikel Arteta's side to end their Liverpool hoodoo.

Liverpool's frailties were once again highlighted in their 3-3 draw against Brighton at Anfield, where the Reds dropped two points after conceding a late Leandro Trossard goal. With just 10 points accumulated from seven games, there are huge question marks surrounding Jurgen Klopp's side, and it may be the perfect time for Arsenal to play them.
"I don’t know how many times I have to say we need a reaction," said Klopp after the Brighton draw.
"I know we have 10 points and that’s the reality. I don’t hide from that. We have to go together and build. We could have won but would we have deserved to win? I’m actually not sure. Brighton deserved something.
"With all the good things we did during the week the confidence is a little flower and when someone stamps on it, it is really difficult. We have to accept it. Of course it is not enough for us, but it is what we have got.
"I know then Arsenal is coming and we saw glimpses of their game against Tottenham. They are outstanding in the moment so that is obviously not an easy game. But we will give it a proper try."
