We live in a world that’s largely built by and for able-bodied people, with not a whole lot of thought given to accessibility for those living with disabilities. In many cases, disabled people and their families are left to figure it out and make necessary accommodations on their own. Very frequently, if people become disabled later in life, and they’re no longer able to access or enjoy some activities they once loved, well, that’s just too bad.
That’s where the Outrider USA Coyote, the electric quad with a difference, comes in. It’s built as a vehicle that both disabled and able-bodied riders alike can enjoy. It calls itself “world’s lightest 4WD,” and tips the scales at between 150 and 250 pounds, depending on how you spec it. As an electric vehicle, it’s also super quiet—perfect for enjoying nature in any way you see fit.
With the Coyote’s all-terrain capabilities, disabled people can have the opportunity to get out and enjoy the great outdoors in ways that just weren’t possible before. The Outrider USA Coyote is an extremely off-road capable, all-electric ATV that the company says can fit into the back of a mid-sized SUV. Since they’re built to order, riders can choose between the company’s proudly American-made 3000W mid-drive powertrain, or the 5000W hub motor 4WD system. The latter powertrain, Outrider says, is exceptionally quiet and ideal for both hunters and disabled riders who can benefit from the 4WD system.
The proprietary aluminum monocoque frame keeps the Coyote both lightweight and strong. A single 1512 wH lithium-ion battery pack will get a claimed 20 to 35 miles on a single charge, but you can outfit it with up to 6 of these for 6,048 wH and between 80 and 140 miles of range (for an additional fee, of course). Other available options include a cargo rack, headlight, hi-viz LED lightpole, and an electronics package with two USB ports and a 12V outlet.
The 3000W mid-drive powertrain uses a carbon belt and live axle setup, while the 5000W hub motor 4WD option is direct-drive, offering plenty of torque exactly where you need it. The RWD live axle, 3000W powertrain can support riders up to 400 pounds. Either powertrain gets you a top speed of 22 mph, but going the fastest isn’t usually a top priority when you’re riding the trails and out exploring nature.
Seat height is set at 16.5 inches, and features a hydrophobic cushion to help keep you dry when you’re riding through wet conditions. Ground clearance is seven inches, and the Coyote rolls on aluminum wheels with IRC VX-10 tires. Independent suspension utilizes air shocks at both ends, with adjustable rebound.
Dual Magura hydraulic 180mm front disc brakes come standard, as does an onboard 1000W 110V charger. An optional 220V, 2500W charger can be fitted upon request. Since Outrider USA also ships worldwide, accommodation for different electrical systems in different countries can also be made if you ask. Incidentally, Outrider says the Coyote is closed-loop system-friendly; use solar charging when it’s not in use to keep the battery ready to go anytime.
