Outrage as sickening swastika stickers appear on traffic lights in Bury

Sickening anti-Semitic coronavirus stickers have been plastered on traffic lights in Bury.

About a dozen of the vile images appeared on pedestrian crossing controls in Peel Way, near to Woodfields Retail Park, this week.

They featured two Nazi swastika symbols alongside a slogan which read: "No Covid pass."

Coun Nathan Boroda, Bury Council’s Deputy Cabinet Member for Operations and a member of the Jewish community, described the posters as 'deeply disturbing'.

He added: “These stickers, which have been put up across our borough, are absolutely horrific.

"At a time of increased anxiety and insecurity for our Jewish community, the use of Nazi imagery in public spaces is all the more concerning.

"I have raised this with the Council’s Operations Department who are looking at taking them down right away.”

The stickers have also been condemned by Bury South MP Christian Wakeford, who made headlines today after defecting to the Labour Party.

Sharing a picture of one of the stickers on Tuesday evening, Mr Wakeford tweeted: "On the streets of Bury. You can disagree with a policy, but there is absolutely no place for Antisemitism in society.

"This needs to stop now and I hope @GMPBuryNorth @GMPBurySouth catch who is putting this filth on our streets."

A spokesperson for Bury Council confirmed that the stickers had since been 'scratched out'.

Greater Manchester Police has been approached for comment.
