Outrage as Floyd Mayweather vs Aaron Chalmers priced at most expensive UK boxing PPV ever

Boxing fans are furious after learning Floyd Mayweather’s exhibition bout with Aaron Chalmers will be the UK’s most expensive pay-per-view ever. News broke earlier this month that Muay Thai fighter Liam Harrison had pulled out of a fight with Mayweather due to a knee injury.

With the February 25 date just weeks away, Geordie Shore star Chalmers stepped up for the biggest test of his career. The Kenton native previously fought for MMA organisation Bellator but only has one professional boxing fight to his name, a points victory over journeyman Alexander Zeledon last June.

Chalmers now has an enormous opportunity to test his skills against one of the greatest to ever don a pair of gloves. Mayweather, worth an estimated £400million, has taken part in several exhibition bouts since retiring in August 2017.

The 50-0 superstar will be 46 when he steps into the ring at the O2 Arena - his first fight on British soil - and fought UK-based YouTuber Deji Olatunji last year. However, fans are angered at how much the PPV will cost.

Streaming site Zeus Network will broadcast the contest for a staggering £32.26, making Mayweather vs Chalmers the dearest bout in UK history. The previous record was set in December when Tyson Fury defended his WBC heavyweight crown against Dereck Chisora.

BT Sport charged customers £26.95 to watch Fury’s shutout TKO victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. One outraged fan commented online how “absolutely nobody” will stump up the fee.

Another quipped: “Granted I had to fly to Las Vegas, but I now feel like the $200 I paid for my Mayweather vs Hatton fight ticket was absolutely outstanding value!”
