Outpouring of love for 'wonderful' mum as kids issue funeral request

Funeral details for a beloved mum and radio presenter have been released.

The family of Cassie James from Southport announced her death on social media on Monday, January 9, after a long battle with cancer. The 61-year-old was given just six months to live in July last year after enduring a lengthy illness.

She was first diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer in August 2016 before medics found a lesion in her brain which they believe was a result of the breast cancer. Halfway through the 61-year-old's breast cancer treatment, she was also told she had melanoma on the sole of her foot.

Following Stereotactic radiotherapy surgery to the lesion in her brain, she underwent a gruelling seven rounds of chemotherapy. Cassie had to have bilateral lumpectomies and lymph nodes removed from both armpits and she also had to have a complete hysterectomy.

The melanoma on her foot was removed shortly after going through chemotherapy for her breast cancer, leaving her on crutches for over four months before she underwent radiation therapy as part of her continued breast cancer treatment. A year after she had the foot melanoma removed she was told she had melanoma in her groin.

Cassie underwent a groin dissection to have 10 lymph nodes removed. This left her with acute pain from lymphedema. Despite her pain and her challenges, Cassie continued to work as a volunteer radio presenter for Southport's community radio station, Mighty Radio.

Posting on Cassie's Facebook, her children wrote: "Thank you all for the absolutely wonderful messages, we are overwhelmed with the amount of people sharing their condolences and love for mum we feel so honoured and lucky beyond belief to know how many lives she touched.

"Please join us to celebrate our wonderful mother Cassie James. Let’s give her the celebration she so deserves.

"Date: Thursday 26th January. Time: The ceremony will start at 11am so please come a little before. Ceremony Location: West Lancashire Crematorium Pippin St, Ormskirk L40 7SP
