The actor, who plays Jamie Fraser, said: "What an incredible journey with an incredible fanbase. #Outlander has officially been renewed for an eighth and final season.

It's been an incredible journey," before adding, "we love you, Outlander fans."

Catriona Balfe also featured in the clip, with the Claire Fraser actress adding: "Thank you so much for being with us from day one."

The cast vowed that they will be going "out with a bang" in the final series, telling fans "it's not over yet".

The seventh series of the show was filmed during 2022, with the premiere to hit screens this summer.

The final episode of season six left fans wanting more, with the cliffhanger showed an attempt to rip Jamie and Claire apart, as Richard Brown took Claire to jail in Wilmington to stand for the murder of Malve Christie.

During the episode, Jamie was send packing back to Scotland before Young Ian rescued the hero before helping him save his lover Claire.

As well as a new series, LIONSGATE+ has announced plans for an original series - Outlander: Blood of My Blood - a prequel series from Matthew B. Roberts.

The 10-episode series will centre on the lives and relationship of Jamie Fraser’s parents, Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie.
