Outlander star Sam Heughan has delighted fans by joining TikTok as he documents his most recent trip to Mexico, including getting lost in the country.
The 42-year-old actor joined the social media platform, and shared his first post which showcased him and his team lost in the Mexican countryside. The Scots star can be seen talking to the camera, telling fans: "We've made it somewhere, I'm not quite sure where," as the camera pans to show sprawling greenery and mountains in the background.
In the video, Sam can be heard whispering and pointing at a man in the background, saying: "They don't know where we are going, that's the driver," as he points to the man in a blue shirt. After showing off the tropical surroundings, Sam asks a crew member if there are any beers left before finishing his first ever TikTok.
Sam captioned the video: "Lost in Mexico! #hellotiktok ," before commenting "Hi all!!!," to his buzzing fans. It appears the actor eventually found his way out of the woods, as he continued posting snippets from the rest of his trip.
The Scotsman was enjoying a tortilla baking challenge with a local, as he was put to shame by his competitors but humbly accepted defeat, writing: "Clearly a novice… These ladies are masters!" However, the most exciting video of Sam's is by far his most recent one, as he shows off a bottle of his Sassenach Select Double Wood Reposado Tequila.
He captioned the TikTok: " @sassenachspirits somewhere in Mexico…" Fans flocked to the comments, as one wrote: "Enjoying local spots AND your awesome tequila…u must b SO happy!"
Another penned: "sounds like wonderful music and company. enjoy the drinks," and a third wrote: "I still haven't gotten over you being on TikTok.. made my day!!!"
Fans are speculating that Sam is back in Mexico to make more of his Sassenach Tequila, after it was such a big hit last year. In December 2021, Heughan released his own brand of the drink following the success of his whisky which launched in 2020, under the same Sassenach range.
After sharing photos of his trip to Mexico to Instagram as he is 'in the search of Agave', fans believe that he is making more of his successful tequila. Heughan created the Sassenach Select Double Wood Reposado tequila after being inspired by a trip to Mexico, and realising that we don't have the same appreciation for the spirit in the UK.
Speaking to Forbes about the launch last year, Heughan said: "A couple of years ago, pre-Covid, we went to visit [Mexico]. I had very little experience with tequila. I think especially in the UK, we’re quite far behind the rest of the world in our appreciation for it. I was just completely blown.
"My eyes were opened the whole experience. We went to Tequila Town. We met Tony Salles, we met the whole family, Tequileño. Just to discover the whole process and the history and the heritage behind it. What was really fun was that we took our whisky with us.
"We were just launching. In fact, when we were there, we launched our first release of the Sassenach whisky and those guys were really excited for us. We celebrated with some whisky and they said they enjoyed it, and we enjoyed their tequila. It was really a very sort of natural, organic process.”
