Outlander star Sam Heughan coming to Edinburgh for motorbike charity ride

Sam Heughan will be biking across Edinburgh this weekend to raise money for charity.

The Outlander star is set to take part in the Distinguished Gentlemen's Ride across the capital, as he raises cash for men's mental health and cancer charities, reports the Daily Record.

The 42-year-old, most known for his portrayal of Jamie Fraser in the Scottish fantasy series, will be fundraising for donations towards prostrate cancer research, and men's mental health.

Leading men's charity, Movember has partnered with the Distinguished Gentlemen's Ride to put on events across the UK.

This includes Edinburgh, Fife, Glasgow, Inverness and Killin.

Focusing in on raising money and awareness on cancer in men, and helping people grow closer together, motorcyclists will band together in over 700 cities globally to ride on the same day.

With over 50 rides in the UK and with hundreds of riders stunningly dressed, this event is set to be a real show for the ages.

Sam is the top fundraiser in Edinburgh so far, with a total of more than £25,000, that completely smashed his original target of £1,000.

Sam took to social media to thank his followers, writing: "So overwhelmed by the generosity and people sponsoring me for @gentlemansride!

"Riding to raise awareness and support for Men’s Mental Health and Prostate Cancer research @movember. Looking forward to the ride this weekend.

"Stay safe all, thanks to @triumphuk for the wheels."

Sam will be sporting a Triumph Thruxton RS at the event in Edinburgh, as he is an avid motorbiking fan.

The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride unites classic and vintage style motorcycle riders all over the world to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer research and men’s mental health.

The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride was founded in Sydney, Australia, by Mark Hawwa.

Sam, an avid lover of motorbikes, officially passed his test in 2020, after it was put on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic.
