Outlander's Sam Heughan will be motorbiking across Edinburgh this weekend to raise cash for charity

Sam Heughan is set to take part in the Distinguished Gentlemen's Ride in Edinburgh as he raises money for men's mental health and cancer charities.

The 42-year-old actor shot to fame playing Highland warrior Jamie Fraser in the on-screen adaptation of Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series.

But he will be delighting fans in real life this Sunday when he revs into action looking dapper, as similar events take place across the globe.

The leading men’s charity, Movember, in partnership with the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride, returns to cities across the UK, including Edinburgh, Fife, Aberdeen, Glasgow, Inverness, and Killin with their unique, mass motorbike event.

Focused on raising awareness of prostate cancer and helping people make meaningful connections, motorcyclists in over 700 cities globally will ride through the streets on the same day.

With over 50 rides in the UK and with hundreds of riders impeccably dressed in style, this event is set to be a real spectacle.

Sam is the top fundraiser in Edinburgh so far, with a total of more than £25,000, completely smashing his original goal of £1,000.

Taking to social media, the Outlander actor said: "So overwhelmed by the generosity and people sponsoring me for @gentlemansride!

"Riding to raise awareness and support for Men’s Mental Health and Prostate Cancer research @movember.

"Looking forward to the ride this weekend.

"Stay safe all, thanks to @triumphuk for the wheels."

He will be riding a Triumph Thruxton RS at the event across the streets of Edinburgh.

The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride unites classic and vintage style motorcycle riders all over the world to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer research and men’s mental health.

The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride was founded in Sydney, Australia, by Mark Hawwa.

It was inspired by a photo of TV Show Mad Men’s Don Draper astride a classic bike and wearing his finest suit.

Mark decided a themed ride would be a great way of connecting niche motorcycle enthusiasts and communities while raising funds to support men.

Sam is an avid motorbike enthusiast.

He officially passed his motorbike test in 2020 after taking lessons for a year before being made to wait to proceed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
