Outlander's Caitríona Balfe nominated for BAFTA for new Belfast film

Outlander's Caitríona Balfe has been nominated for a BAFTA award for her role in Belfast.

The film, now in cinemas, is said to be "a semi-autobiographical film which chronicles the life of a working class family and their young son's childhood during the tumult of the late 1960s in the Northern Irish capital."

It is directed by Kenneth Branagh who many may know as Gilderoy Lockhart in the Harry Potter movie series and Hercule Poirot in Murder on the Orient Express and most recently, Death on the Nile.

The Irish actress has been nominated for Best Supporting Actress alongside her co-star Ciaran Hinds who is up for the award Best Supporting Actor.

Taking to Twitter the 42-year-old wrote: "Thank you @BAFTA for this incredible honour. I’m so proud to be amongst this fine group of actresses who’s work has moved me and inspired me this year. So proud !!! And so happy for the rest of my @BelfastMovie family .. 6 Noms!!! @FocusFeatures."

The black and white film is said to be inspired by Kenneth Branagh’s own childhood..
