Outlander author to receive Glasgow University doctorate in graduation ceremony

Author of the popular Outlander series, Diana Gabaldon, will be honoured with a doctorate at the University of Glasgow graduation ceremony this summer.

The 70-year-old will be invited to the summer ceremony to receive her Doctor of Letters degree, along with Jackie Wylie, Artistic Director and Chief Executive of the National Theatre of Scotland.

Gabaldon is the author of the nine Outlander books, soon to be ten, as she announced in September 2021 that she was in the process of writing the potential final book of the series.

She has received worldwide acclaim for her skills, and Outlander has become such a popular TV series that fans across the globe visit Scotland to spot cast members filming and take in some of the landmarks included in the show.

Professor Anton Muscatelli, Principal & Vice-Chancellor, University of Glasgow, said: “It is an honour to recognise the work of such distinguished people from across the world at this year’s Commemoration Day, individuals who have a made a genuine difference to so many people’s lives across the globe, the UK and here in Scotland.

“Awarding honorary degrees is a way for the University to recognise the achievements of people who have made a positive impact and are world changers in their chosen fields.

"We look forward to celebrating their successes and welcoming them to our UofG community.”

It is not yet known if the author will attend the ceremony in person, but when such news becomes available, it will be announced here.
