Outlander author Diana Galbaldon reveals the inspiration behind book series' famous phrases

Outlander has a massive fan base across the world, and many will be very familiar with the words and phrases used throughout the books and series.

The terms "Jesus H. Roosevelt Christ" and "Sassenach" are just a few of many that fans will know very well, but some people have wondered how they came about and what the inspirations were behind them.

The 70-year-old recently told her 371,000 followers that it was in fact her husband, Doug Watkins, who is to thank for them.

One fan took to Twitter after coming across on in the book and said: "“Egg sucking, son of a porcupine!” - Jamie Fraser #thefireycross #Outlander where does @Writer_DG find such marvellous expression?!?!"

She said: "My husband, mostly. I hear a lot of colorful things when he's working on a car, boat or motorcycle."

And fans loved hearing where the inspiration came from.

One replied: "Your husband has been a wonderful resource for you throughout your writing career. God put you two together for a reason . . ."

While another penned: "I love this!" While another wrote: "That’s a visual Diana!"
