Outlander author Diana Gabaldon has shared her most loved and watched film of all time

Diana Gabaldon, who rose to fame for her creation of the Outlander book series, has given an insight into her 'favourite' all-time film, and it might just surprise you coming from the best-selling author.

The 71-year-old often engages with her fans on social media and often opens up about her life and career. This time, she has let her following on Twitter know about her favourite film the original Fantasia (1940) revealing she is a true Disney fan!

"Captivating visuals!," penned one fan as they responded to her on Twitter, whilst another added: "I watched it as a child and watched with my child so I'd have to say The Wizard of Oz."

Fantasia is a 1940 American animated musical anthology film produced and released by Walt Disney Productions

Diana's Outlander series has taken the globe by storm, having been adapted for the small screen by Starz, it follows the tale of Claire and Jamie Fraser (played by Catriona Balfe and Sam Heughan).

Earlier this year, she confirmed that a further 10,000 copies were in the works as the fanbase for the historical romance show continues to boom and more fans are eager to get their hands on the books showcasing the original tale.

The tweet read: "Nice bit of news from publisher: '...we will be going back to press on the trade paperback edition of Outlander. This will be our 56th printing, with 10,000 new copies, for a total of 782,964 copies in print. Congratulations!' ('trade paperback' is the large one)"

Meanwhile, fans are eagerly awaiting the return of the much-loved show to our screens for season seven.

Outlander season seven is bound to be an unmissable event, given its doubled length of the sixth run. Season six only aired eight episodes instead of the original 12 but the seventh has been confirmed to consist of a juicy 16 episodes.

Diana Gabaldon's book series was the start of the beautiful storm, having now sold more than 50 million copies in 114 countries in 38 languages, and the rest, as they say, is eighteenth-century history.
