Outlander author Diana Gabaldon confirms why season 7 first episode differs from book

Outlander fans were delighted on Friday when the brand new bumper episode of season seven dropped.

Fanatics of the show set their alarms for the first episode "A Life Well Lost" dropping and, after watching it, many took to social media to discuss.

Many loyal followers of the show fell in love with Jamie and Claire through the books, which were penned by Diana Gabaldon, and they always like to compare the show storylines to the books.

One fan appeared to be confused at the last scene of the first episode as Jamie Fraser appeared to have a violent show down with Richard Brown, which then left viewers with a cliffhanger and one fan took to Twitter to ask Diana why that changed from the book.

They wrote: "Loved it, though little thrown by the end since I couldn’t recall a revenge storyline (against the Browns) happening after Claire’s release. Maybe my memory is a little lacking?"

Diana replied the real reason and explained that there was a difference between the book and series.

She said: "No, that's not what happened in the book, but it was a) satisfying and b) brief

She added: "but it seems a trifle harsh to actually send a band of Cherokee to exterminate the entire Brown clan. (We may, of course, tell ourselves that Jamie was just torturing Richard Brown by telling him that, and in fact did nothing to the other Browns. You can decide that...)"

And fans loved that Diana replied and shared their thoughts on the ending.

One penned: "I believe Jamie killing Brown in cold blood to be a positive move for the show, and 100% in character."

And another wrote: "I thought Brown deserved it and was excited to see that Jamie, again. It was another phenomenal performance by Sam."

While another said: "Brown deserved everything he got!!! With all the torture he did, I’m glad he got his due. Maybe rational Jamie wouldn’t do what he did but what the Browns did to Claire irrational and vengeful Jamie took over."
