Those who live in inland Leeds, may think their only option to enjoy water outside would be to buy an outdoor paddling pool or splash out on a garden hot tub or jacuzzi.
But, they couldn’t be more wrong, there are an abundance of outdoor pools and lidos just a two-hour drive or less away from Leeds - just make sure not to forget your swimming cossie!

Fantastic outdoor pools perfect for sunny days
Hathersage Lido, Peak District
Travel time - One hour and 15 minutes from Leeds

The outdoor swimming pool, which is heated to 28 degrees, is set within a lawned enclosure.
Nestled within some stunning scenery, the Hathersage Lido offers the perfect opportunity to swim in the open air.
The Lido is currently open for bookings.
For non-members, tickets go on sale at 7am every Friday for sessions the following week.

Shap Open Air Swimming Pool, Lake District
Travel time - Two hours from Leeds

Shap swimming pool is England's highest open air heated pool as it sits at over 900ft above sea level.
The pool, which is heated to 26 degrees, is 16.5 metres long, and 1.5 metres in the deep end.
A qualified lifeguard is on duty at all times, and there is also shops selling refreshments nearby.
The venue reopened on June 12, with covid measures in place.

Helmsley Open Air Swimming Pool, North Yorkshire
Travel time - One hour and 15 minutes from Leeds

The open air swimming pool is situated in a National Park and is surrounded by stunning scenery.
The pool has open session swimming, lane swimming, fun sessions, great for the children, and private hire of the pool is also available.
The pool is open and operating under the covid safety guidelines.

Alpamare UK Water park, Scarborough
Travel time - One hour and 50 minutes from Leeds

The waterpark is perfect for a family fun day out.
It boasts four slides, a wave pool, an outdoor infinity pool and an eatery, plus a spa with a sauna and steam.
The waterpark reopened in May this year and customers have to book online in advance.

Splash Zone, Lytham St Annes
Travel time - One hour and 30 minutes from Leeds

Sadly, the swimming centre, which has water play equipment, spray loops, water sprays, bucket drops, water domes and space for paddling, is currently closed.
In a social media post, shared on June 2, the swimming centre said: “We’re afraid that we don't currently have a set date for reopening the Splash Park.
“Our teams are working hard to ensure that when we do reopen, we do this as safely as possible/
“Please keep an eye on our page for updates and information.”
Ilkley Pool and Lido, Bradford
Travel time - 40 minute drive from Leeds
Sadly, the picturesque outdoor pool, which has its’ own water fountain and is surrounded by stunning views, is currently closed.
But the heated indoor pool is open and available for bookings.
Bradford council’s website said as soon as an opening date for the outdoor pool is confirmed the website will be updated.
