Our newsroom shares why you should subscribe to The National this year for £30

THIS year we want to bring you into our newsroom even more than we already do, so we asked a few of our colleagues: Why exactly should our readers subscribe?

For a very limited time, our flash sale on our annual digital subscription deals is live. That’s one year for £30.

In the pages of the opening edition of The National published in 2014, we included a mission statement which read: "The status quo is no longer an option and there is an unquenchable desire for greater devolution.

"Quite simply, the Scottish people want to be more directly and deeply involved in the decisions that affect them and the generations to come.

"It is with this uppermost in mind that today we launch The National, a daily newspaper that will fly a vibrant flag for independence and the right for Scots to govern themselves."

That mission is still well and truly alive in our newsroom today

One of our political reporters Hamish Morrison reiterated the mission, nine years after it was written, when I asked him why readers should subscribe.

He said: "The National is the only paper with a serious interest in independence; how we get there and what we do with it once it's been seized. The other papers don't care about the incredible dedication of the Yes movement and its efforts to mould the building blocks of an independent Scotland - we do."

One of our multimedia journalists, Ross Hunter, added to this point of media ignorance to Yes.

He said: "We help articulate the vision for a progressive, independent Scotland and give voice to a huge portion of the pro-independence population that aren't represented in other media outlets."

Our editor Laura Webster, who recently took us behind the scenes in the newsroom (video below), spoke about the in-depth coverage we do into the stories important to the people who live in Scotland.

She said: "Other than independence of course, I love how at The National we get to dig into Scotland's stories which don't get the coverage they deserve. Land reform, energy, nuclear, workers' rights - our journalists are committed to exploring these topics that affect people's lives directly, but get overshadowed by culture war stories in a lot of the press."

Our senior political reporter Judith Duffy highlighted the work done to the Sunday National, and all of the weekend content we produce.

"A subscription to The National also includes the Sunday National every week, where you can find in-depth analysis of the big political stories, agenda-setting stories, quality coverage of social and cultural issues and opinions from top columnists - perfect for reading over a coffee on a Sunday," she said.

Finally, another of our multimedia team, Adam Robertson, rounded up all of our non-political and political content up into a perfect pitch: "Whether it's politics, arts and culture or just everything Scottish, The National has it all. Scotland is at a critical moment in its history and our team, along with a host of top columnists, will be on hand to deliver it all straight to you."

Plus all of this:

We hope you join us for the next year - for just £30. Click here to subscribe and support Scotland's only pro-independence daily newspaper.
