Our Liverpool: Unlikely Scouser steals show as Eurovision party arrives on Merseyside

Hello and welcome to Thursday morning's 'Our Liverpool' feature.

This handy round-up showcases the best of ECHO content so you'll never have to miss some of the stories we have been most excited to tell. Today's round up is devoted to the Eurovision handover as the international song contest officially arrived in the city.

Eurovision fever has swept across Merseyside ever since Liverpool won hosting rights despite competition from other major cities such as Glasgow, Manchester and Birmingham. Representatives from around the world gathered at St George's Hall on Tuesday for a special event as Liverpool was given the keys to host the contest.

Liverpool set to enjoy Eurovision boom

Last year's event was hosted in Turin and the Italian city's mayor headed to Liverpool to handover the keys to the contest. Stefano Lo Russo explained to the ECHO how Turn is still experiencing an economic boom as the city enjoys the legacy of Eurovision. He said: "The impact was huge not only with the international reputation of the city but tourists coming from abroad so it's a very important event." You can read the full story here.

Stars party in the region

Rylan Clark and AJ Odudu hosted the semi final draw at St George's Hall on Tuesday. ECHO reporter, Christopher Megrath, spoke to the two at the event as they heaped praise on the city's vibrant nightlife.

AJ said: "What I love about Liverpool is how fun it is and that everyone is just up for it. I mean we got here on a Monday night and went out. On a Monday night!"

And finally... a Scouser steals the show

Famous faces may have arrived on Merseyside to mark the start of Liverpool's Eurovision stint this week, but it was typically a Scouser who stole the show.

It appears Eurovision fever hasn't completely spread across Merseyside yet as a BBC reporter was in hysterics when a Liverpudlian discovered the city would be hosting the contest live on air. She said: "I didn't know, sorry. This is news. I can't laugh properly because I've had too much botox." You can view the full story here
