Our Liverpool: Nurses unite for second wave of strikes

Good morning and welcome to the latest instalment of Our Liverpool.

This twice-daily round-up shines the spotlight on ECHO content, as well as letting you know what's high on our news agenda.

As property writer I've been chatting to a pantomime star turned multimillion-pound developer, but I'm also on the lookout for your stories. Whether you want to showcase your interior style in our Where I Live feature, or highlight property issues you're facing in the cost of living crisis, my inbox is always open. Here's a round-up of my favourite recent ECHO pieces, as well as an insight into what our reporters are up to today.

History in the making

Today is another historic day for nurses as a second wave of industrial action gets underway. The the Royal College of Nursing's (RCN's) first strike ever took place last month, with further walk outs also confirmed for February.

Liam Thorp, Danny Rigg, Remy Greasley and Elliot Ryder are out on the pickets this morning hearing from those on the front line. Strikes are set to take place today and tomorrow at hospitals across Merseyside.

The ECHO's Aaliyah Rugg has put together a handy advice piece for anyone impacted by the strikes while nostalgia writer Phoebe Barton has compiled a collection of images from across the decades celebrating the sector and the crucial work they do.

You can follow today's live blog from across Merseyside hospitals here.

Naughty noughties

Speaking of our nostalgia team, they've been putting together great pieces recently on life in Liverpool in the noughties. While it pains me that these years are already considered 'nostalgia', it's a great look back at the trends and venues the city was obsessed with at the time. And I don't know about you but the fashion choices certainly bring back memories from my own wardrobe that I'd care to forget!

Cold snap closure

It's official - the Met Office yellow weather warning for snow and ice on Merseyside draws to a close at 12pm today. The cold snap may have caused travel chaos, but it certainly made for some beautiful scenery, as caught on camera by our snapper Colin Lane in Greenbank Park.

The long and winding road

Whether or not you think the city needs it, it has emerged that Liverpool is still waiting on the £2m promised by then-chancellor Rishi Sunak in October 2021 for a "new Beatles attraction". Elliot Ryder has taken a closer look at what's going on.
