Our Liverpool: Mum's journey from self loathing to coming-out

Hello and welcome to Our Liverpool.

Leading the news this morning is the inspiring story of a mum who came out as gay after waking up from a mastectomy. Gail Yorke, 53, lived the majority of her life suppressing her sexuality as she believed she couldn't be both gay and Christian.

Speaking about how her life turned around following surgery she didn't believe she'd survive, speaking to our LGBTQ+ reporter Paul McAuley, she said: "I was just throwing all of myself into my faith and at times felt self-loathing.

"If I ever got any feelings or thoughts about women, I loathed myself, I would come home and cry a lot and self-harmed for years, all because of how I felt about myself."

Remembering swimming baths where generations learned to swim

Nostalgia reporter Jess Molyneux has taken a look back at Bootle's Balliol Road swimming baths which opened in 1888 and was at the centre of recreation and leisure in the town for decades. The baths were once well loved and played a formative part of many peoples' childhoods helping them learn, as well as wash if they didn't have water at home.

Suspect named as delivery rider stabbed in the face

Police have named a suspected knife man after a delivery rider was stabbed in a daylight attack. The rider was reported to have been delivering food on Bridge Road in Brighton-Le-Sands, Sefton, on Thursday when he was stabbed as a robber tried to steal his bike.
