Our Liverpool: happy St Paddy's Day!

Hello and welcome to this morning's Our Liverpool.

It's finally Friday and what's more it's also St Patrick's Day. We've got such a fantastic Irish population and heritage here in Liverpool (sometimes it seems everyone's got an Irish nan or Great nan) that it's promising to be a very, very festive day as things kick off later.

We've got the St Patrick's Day parade coming at 2.30pm (we've got the route here) but so many venues are running St Paddy's Day events so you shouldn't worry if you can't get off work until later. It's looking like it'll be a mad one.

Reporter Danny Rigg, from Ireland, didn't know he had any other connection to Liverpool before he came here for university years ago until his mum told him about her Scouse nan, born to a woman who arrived from the country. Danny dug through census records and finally visited the house where she lived around 140 years ago: a really special story.

Stephanie Hanson, from Liverpool, was in Greece with her friends for her 40th when it all dawned on her that she wasn't happy and what's more, that she no longer loved her husband. She decided that when she got home she would leave her husband, and she did, and her life changed.

As a bit of fun this St Patrick's Day we're trying to find out which pub in our area our readers think serves the best pint of Guinness. That can mean the best pulled pint, or just the best venue to relax in as you sink a pint of the milky Irish stout - whatever your reason, tell us where you'd get the best pint of Guinness in Merseyside.
