Our Liverpool: City's Battle of the Atlantic 80th anniversary plans

Hello and welcome to Our Liverpool.

Next week merchant and naval ships will sail into Liverpool for three days of commemorations and celebrations to mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Atlantic. Next Friday, the vessels, led by Royal Navy destroyer HMS Defender, will raise the curtain on a weekend of events to mark the longest naval battle in history.

A private service of commemoration at St Nick's Church on the waterfront will kick start the events, and will be followed by the unveiling of a new memorial in the church grounds. You can find all of the information you need to know ahead of the celebrations here.
