Our favorite Kindle just hit $95, a record low price for Amazon Prime Day 2

Is it truly Amazon Prime Day without one of Amazon’s very own Kindles hitting an all-time low? We don’t think so, and thankfully, the online retailer delivered by dropping the Kindle Paperwhite to its lowest price ever of just $95.

It’s an excellent eReader and was an easy pick as our favorite Kindle, thanks to a 6.8-inch quality display, long battery life, and design. It starts with 8GB of storage, which is more than enough space for thousands of books, and that model is down to just $95—a 32% discount from the $140 regular price.

Alternatively, and arguably, the better Kindle Paperwhite deal is to double the storage to 16GB for $5 more, bringing the total to $100. That matches the 16GB model’s all-time low, and odds are, you’ll never have to delete a book off your Kindle unless you're a prolific reader.

Surrounding the 6.8-inch display, you’ll find 17 different LEDs serving as a frontlight to illuminate the 300 ppi (pixels-per-inch) resolution display to make reading possible in any lighting conditions. The lights are also adjustable, allowing you to tune them to warmer colors to make reading in lower light conditions easier on your eyes.

Amazon estimates the Kindle Paperwhite’s battery will last 10 weeks with roughly 30 minutes of reading each day. Even if you read for an hour a day, charging your Kindle Paperwhite via its USB-C charging port once every 5 weeks or so doesn't sound all that bad.

The Paperwhite’s design makes it easy to hold single-handedly for long periods of time, and turning pages with a swipe across the screen is incredibly smooth thanks to the flush front screen (meaning the display is even, not recessed, with the bezels that surround it.)

Furthermore, the Paperwhite is waterproof, so you can feel comfortable taking it with you to the beach, by the pool, or even catching up on your latest book in the bathtub. If it happens to take a dip, just wipe it off and let it air dry for a bit.

Along with the immediate savings, you can opt to get three months free of Kindle Unlimited, Amazon’s subscription service that gives you access to over 4 million books, which should be more than enough to break in your new Kindle. After the three months run out, you can keep using Kindle Unlimited for $12 a month.

For fans of the Audible service and listening to audible books, you can pair your Bluetooth earbuds, like the AirPods Pro 2nd Gen—which are at an all-time low of $189—, or speaker to the Kindle Paperwhite to have a book read to you. Pretty cool!

At $95 for the 8GB and $100 for the 16GB, the Kindle Paperwhite hits a perfect note with a robust feature set, but if you’re sold, you’ll want to act fast as there is no telling how long the savings will be around for.

And if you just want to test the eReader waters and aren’t sold on the Kindle Paperwhite, the standard Kindle is a fine choice and is currently on sale for $75. It’s not as feature-rich as the Paperwhite, but it will certainly get the job done. You can read our review of the entry-level Kindle here.
