A couple who won £1million on the lottery splashed their cash on bringing two new grandchildren into the world.
Jeff and Davinia Pritchard stepped in with their chequebook when their daughter Claire was struggling to conceive.
Claire weighed more than 20 stone at the time so Jeff and Davinia used their winnings to pay for private gastric surgery.
She lost 10st and soon became pregnant.
She now has two children, Lillie, two, and 11-month-old Emrys. Obesity can reduce the chances of conceiving.
Davinia, 56, said: “Of everything we’ve done with our lottery winnings our two little grandchildren are far and away the best.
“When we won we wanted to spread the joy to our family and that’s what we’ve done.”
Davinia and Claire both underwent £5,000 gastric sleeve operations after struggling to lose weight through dieting.
They were operated on by the same surgeon at the same private hospital on the same day.
Mum-of-three Davinia said: “I was booked in for surgery and I inquired if they could do Claire as well.
"We asked if they would do a buy one, get one free deal.”
Claire, 39, married to retail worker Jonathan, 49, announced her 2019 pregnancy on Mother’s Day.
She said: “I put the baby scan picture in the Mother’s Day card. There were a lot of tears.”
She added: “We had given up on having children. We would never have had them if Mum and Dad hadn’t won the Lottery.”
Davinia and Jeff, 58, who have five other grandchildren, still live in the same converted farmhouse in Carmarthenshire seven years after winning on the Lotto raffle.
Jeff quit as a works manager with a construction firm and is now a honey producer.
Davinia splashed out on an Audi Q5 in champagne gold.
Andy Carter, The National Lottery’s Senior Winners’ Adviser said: “Jeff and Davinia have really made the most of their win, which has not only enabled them to transform their own lives, but also the lives of their nearest and dearest.
“We have supported them from the first moment they realised they had won and they have always maintained that having seven grandchildren is the best part of their life.
“Many of our winners enjoy being able to give to and treat others and Jeff and Davinia are no different – their win has been both life changing and life giving.”
