Oti Mabuse looked like she might well have tempted fate with her closing message at the end of the latest episode of Romeo and Duet on Saturday as doubts are cast over the show's future.
After she made the switch from the BBC to ITV to join the Dancing on Ice panel, Oti then was handed another big opportunity by the channel when she was chosen to front the unique spin on the dating show format . Romeo & Duet sees one single take on the role of 'Juliet' by standing at the top of some steps while hearing potential suitors sing for their approval, without being able to see them.
The pickers have to decide whether to come all the way to the bottom of the steps and meet the person singing, before they then see each other for the first time Blind Date style and rehearse for a final duet. The show received a lot of hype ahead of its launch a few months ago, but, has had a rather disrupted run on Saturday night primetime TV, due to the fact that ITV chose to prioritise live sporting action over their scheduled programming.

Other shows affected included Saturday Night Takeaway, Starstruck and In For A Penny, but Romeo & Duet has returned to screen to end its run, with the seventh episode, which went out on Saturday, scheduled to be the final one of the series, right before the British Soap Awards aired. And, unfortunately for Oti and fans of the show, it looks like it might have been the last one ever.
After another couple triumphed and before credit rolled on the episode, Oti said: "That's it for tonight. Thanks to all our other couples and singers...we'll be opening up for more musical matchmaking very soon on Romeo and Duet!"
However, this week it was reported that Romeo and Duet won't be back for another series after failing to set the ratings alight. "Expectations were high for the programme as she is immensely popular with the public and Romeo and Duet was given a prime-time slot,’ an insider told The Sun.
‘Rubbing salt in the wound is the fact that the series hasn’t even finished – the final episode airs this Saturday.’
They added: "This will be gut-wrenching for Oti as it was her first solo presenting gig since quitting Strictly to pursue new opportunities.
