An unusual sight brought traffic to a standstill in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on Tuesday when an ostrich found itself in the middle of a busy four-lane road. The towering bird, standing at approximately 7 feet tall, caught the attention of motorists who promptly alerted the authorities.
Responding to the calls, Sioux Falls police and animal officials arrived at the scene to find drivers attempting to coax the ostrich off the road. With quick thinking and a gentle approach, bystanders managed to corral the flightless bird using food and careful nudges.
It was revealed that the ostrich had escaped from a trailer transporting several ostriches owned by an out-of-state traveler. Fortunately, the owner of the birds assisted in capturing the ostrich and safely returning it to the trailer.
Thomas Rhoades, a Sioux Falls Animal Control officer, reassured the public that the ostrich was unharmed and appeared to be in good health. The bird was reunited with its owner without any further incidents.
