The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board authorities have opened the gates of the Osman Sagar reservoir to let about 216 cusecs of flood water downstream into Musi River.
The gates were opened at 1 p.m. on July 26, a note from HMWS&SB informed.
Osman Sagar is yet to reach its Full Tank Level of 1790 feet. Inflows rose to 1200 cusecs on Wednesday morning due to continuous rains, which came down to 800 cusecs by evening. The water level is at 1787.15 feet.
At Himayat Sagar, the outflows which were 2750 cusecs through four gates at the start of the day were brought down to 1350 cusecs through two gates by evening.
Meanwhile, heavy water logging on the Boduppal road due to insufficient drainage into Nalla Cheruvu has resulted in traffic chaos. The Disaster Response Force of the GHMC swung into action and removed the obstruction, facilitating free flow of water.
Though there was no heavy rain in the day hours as predicted by the Meteorology department, the skies remained overcast and it drizzled throughout the day on Wednesday.
With continuous rains for the past one week, roads were damaged, and full of dirt, posing imminent risk of skidding. With no trace of the Sun, the weather remained foggy and dull.
A large number of commuters and office goers remained indoors in view of the heavy rain alert, due to which the roads were relatively free of traffic.
Meteorology department had sounded red alert for the city, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall in city and the state on Wednesday.
Schools have been declared a holiday by the government, and citizens are advised to stay indoors and not venture out.
