Oscars 2025: The most questionable looks from the celebrities on the red carpet

From garish tuxedos to tinfoil-esque gowns, not everyone was a fashion winner at the 2025 Academy Awards on Sunday.

This awards season red carpet style has witnessed an ode to old Hollywood glamour, with many stars encapsulating the aesthetic of the 1950s with bouffant hair, understated couture, satin galore, and crystal-encrusted designs.

And while some celebrities dazzled in their ensembles at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, others opted for bold statements that sparked widespread debate online.

For instance, fans weren’t convinced about Cynthia Erivo’s high-collared dress, which drew comparisons to a cartoon vampire. Others, like Margaret Qualley, drew criticism for failing to take any risks in what was considered a plain outfit.

Here are some of the most questionable looks from the 2025 Oscars:

Cynthia Erivo

Amelia Dimoldenberg

Jeff Goldblum

While Goldblum was not individually nominated for an Oscar, his movie ‘Wicked’ was nominated for Best Picture, among other awards (REUTERS)

Mindy Kaling

Charlotte Lawrence

Kelly Ripa

Alba Rohrwacher

Rohrwacher was not nominated as an individual, but she was supporting her movie ‘Maria,’ which was nominated for Best Cinematography (Getty Images)

Margaret Qualley

Doja Cat

Bowen Yang

The ‘Saturday Night Live’ actor walked the Oscars red carpet wearing a suit jacket decked out in a floral pattern that looked a little too busy (Getty Images)

Miley Cyrus

Cyrus walked the Oscars red carpet wearing a black Alexander McQueen gown with black lace gloves. However, many people questioned why the ‘Flowers’ singer decided to participate in the ‘no eyebrows’ trend (AFP via Getty Images)

Zoe Saldaña

Zoe Saldana’s Saint Laurent dress was called ‘awkwardly proportioned’ by some viewers who criticized how high up it rode on her torso (Getty Images)

Whoopi Goldberg

One critic on X said Whoopi Goldberg looked ‘like she crushed a Tesla’ to make her shimmering blue dress (AP)

Halle Berry

Unfortunately for Halle Berry’s bright, metallic Christian Siriano dress, the gown clashed with the mostly gold stage design. ‘Not to mention the black strip at the waist looks panty hose tacky,’ one person on X added (AP)

Joe Locke
