The Oscars nominations process is back on track and voting will soon close in the weeks before we find out this year’s big winners.
Final voting will close on Tuesday, February 18, just weeks before the 97th Academy Awards ceremony will take place.
The Academy’s voters – an exclusive group comprising film stars, directors, and other prominent Hollywood figures – have just hours left to have their say.
The Oscars are Hollywood’s most prestigious ceremony, and this year’s event will take place in Los Angeles (as always) in March.
Before the big night, here’s what you need to know…
When are the Oscars 2025?
The 97th Academy Awards will take place at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles on the night of Sunday, March 2 – which, for UK film fans, means the early hours of Monday, March 3.
Voting timelines were delayed this year because of the wildfires that swept Hollywood at the start of the year.
How can I watch the Oscars in the UK?
The entire ceremony will once again be broadcast on ITV1 and ITVX.
For UK viewers, the three-hour event is expected to begin at midnight on March 2, though the Academy has advised that this date is subject to change. If you plan to stay up, stock up on snacks and caffeine, as the Oscars broadcast typically runs late into the night for UK audiences.
Who are the favourites to win awards?
The nominations have been announced and, as expected, a number of Golden Globe winners – including Demi Moore, Adrien Brody and Kieran Culkin – are up for awards. Interestingly, the latter will be up against his Succession co-star in the Best Supporting Actor category.
The favourite to win Best Picture is now Anora at odds of 9/2 while The Brutalist is now in second at odds of 7/1. Previously The Brutalist was favoured for the win despite a furore over its use of AI.
Conclave comes in at odds of 15/2.
For Best Actress Demi Moore is still in the front running spot, despite Mikey Madison winning the Bafta in the same category. Demi Moore’s odds are 7/4 while Mikey Madison is coming in close at 4/1, meaning this award is expected to go down to the wire.
In Best Actor, many have underestimated Adrien Brody for The Brutalist, hoping that Timothée Chalamet could pull off the Oscar win for A Complete Unknown. Brody won at the BAFTA Awards on Sunday and is 4/9 to scoop an Oscar.
Chalet is currently the bookies second favourite with odds of 9/4.
